Meet Rizel

Education and Professional Journey

I am currently completing my first year of the Coaching and Counselling training programme at Academie voor Coaching en Counselling (ACC) in Amstelveen. In addition to my current studies, I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work, with postgraduate studies focused on Asset-Based Community Development. My distinction-awarded Master’s research explored domestic violence, and my early career in South Africa involved supporting hundreds of children, adults and families through counselling, play therapy, trauma support, family work and crisis intervention.

After moving to the Netherlands in 2017, my experience expanded into international social development, HR and People Operations, where I supported and coached people through personal development, workplace challenges and periods of change. Across these different roles, I have consistently seen that meaningful growth comes not only from addressing difficulties, but also from recognising existing strengths, relationships, values and resources.

Through Protea Roots, I bring together my social-work foundation, therapeutic experience, international perspective and ongoing formal coaching education in the Netherlands. My coaching approach is strengths-based, solution-focused and values-led coaching techniques. I aim to create a safe, non-judgemental space where clients can explore where they are, identify what already supports them and work towards meaningful change.

My personal values are grounded in compassion, dignity, hope and service, while Protea Roots warmly welcomes people of every faith, culture, nationality, identity and background.
